Our productions have consistently won awards with the National Opera Association since we started entering in 2011. Students learn their craft through a robust curriculum that is designed to prepare artists for the realities of a professional career, combined with the opportunity to perform in multiple fully staged productions with orchestra each year in the state-of-the art Moores Opera House.
Founded by Buck Ross in 1985, the Moores Opera Center has earned a national reputation for preparing singers for professional careers, with alumni performing on stages across the globe.įollowing Ross’s retirement, Lawrence Edelson joined the Moores Opera Center as Artistic Director, bringing to the University of Houston his experience not only as a critically acclaimed stage director, but also as a visionary producer and educator who has created programs in the areas of artist mentorship and new works development that have served as models of innovation for opera companies around the country. Moores Opera Center is recognized as one of the leading opera training programs in the country.
